GCMI, FEA, DIN: Choosing the Right Neck Finish for Your Bottle

The neck finish is the most technical decision in any bottle project: it determines which pumps, sprayers, droppers and caps will fit. Three standards cover most cosmetic glass.

GCMI (e.g. 18/415, 20/410, 24/410): the most common standard for screw necks on lotion and serum bottles. The first number is the outer diameter in millimeters, the second identifies the thread profile and height.

FEA 15: the European standard for perfume bottles, used for both crimp-on and screw-on spray pumps. Crimp necks give a cleaner look but require crimping equipment; screw versions simplify small-batch filling.

DIN 18: the standard for essential oil bottles, compatible with euro droppers, orifice reducers and tamper-evident caps.
