From Gucci Ancora to iPhone 18: Why Burgundy Red Is the New Luxury Color for Cosmetic Packaging

Every few years a single color resets what luxury looks like. In 2024, Gucci creative director Sabato De Sarno brought the house’s classic "Ancora" red back to the center of the brand’s visual identity with his debut collection. Two years later Apple followed: the iPhone 18 Pro, released in September 2026, added Burgundy Wine Red to its four finishes, retired the previous generation’s Starlight Orange, and sold out of the new shade during pre-orders.

Why burgundy? Because it is not a loud red. It is a matte dark wine with a subtle purple pearl: almost black in dim light, and cherry red once light hits it. Low saturation reads as restrained and premium, it never competes with the formula inside the pack, and the way it shifts with the light is something a flat matte red cannot do.

For cosmetic glass this makes burgundy a natural fit, especially for foundation, serum and fragrance. The most reliable combination we ship pairs clear high-white glass with a burgundy electroplated or coated cap: the glass keeps the formula visible, while the closure carries the color.

Four programs from our own production lines show how the same color reads differently across shapes and finishes: a round-shoulder bottle with a high-gloss mirror-electroplated dome cap, shown beside its white pump version; an egg-shaped electroplated cap that becomes the visual focus on its own; a frosted white bottle with a burgundy metal cap and star logo at 30 ml; and a rectangular bottle built in two versions, black pump and burgundy metal cap, that stays unmistakable under shelf lighting.

Behind the color is process. Spraying, electroplating, sandblasting, screen printing, hot stamping and vacuum UV coating all run in-house, so a new burgundy can be matched, sampled and adjusted without the bottle leaving the chain. Color approval starts from a physical sample rather than a Pantone number alone, because glass, coating thickness and lighting all change the final read.

Founded in 1998, Yijing Group operates three production bases across Guangdong and Anhui, with about 730 employees and 282 tons of daily glass output on roughly 150,000 m² of land and 200,000 m² of factory space. ISO 9001 / 14001 / 45001 certified and recognized as a National High-Tech Enterprise, we supply both stock-mold programs and full OEM/ODM development.

Planning a burgundy series? Pairing existing molds with deep wine red coating is the shortest route to market, and an exclusive bottle shape can go from drawing to mass production in one place.
