Kiln No. 2 Ignition Ceremony: YiTai Glass Lights a New Furnace in Qingyuan
On the morning of 1 November 2026, a red arch went up at the gate of Guangdong YiTai Glass in Qingyuan, Guangdong. It announced two milestones in one ceremony: the topping-out of the Phase II plant, and the ignition of Kiln No. 2.
The morning began on the construction side. Under banners reading “封顶大吉” — good fortune on the topping-out — guests in hard hats turned the first soil, a ritual that marks the completion of the roof structure and asks for steady progress ahead. The Phase II plant is being built by Guangdong Qiji Construction as a smart factory for premium glass packaging containers.
Lion dancers followed, and four vertical banners carried the day’s blessings: 百业兴旺 (may every trade flourish), 大吉大利 (great fortune and great profit), 龙马精神 (the vigor of dragon and horse) and 生意兴隆 (may business boom). These are traditional Chinese auspicious phrases — not product claims, but a way of wishing an enterprise well at the start of something new.
The flame arrived on an original torch used in the 2008 Beijing Olympic torch relay: the “Lucky Cloud” (祥云) torch, with its red-and-silver scroll body and cloud pattern. It was passed hand to hand along the line — from the people who approved the investment, to the engineers who commissioned the furnace, to the workers who will run it.
At the furnace mouth the torch went in, and Kiln No. 2 lit. In glassmaking, first fire is the point of no return: from here the furnace runs continuously, day and night, for years. What was a construction site becomes a production line.
The new furnace adds melting capacity in Qingyuan, and with decoration lines on the same site it shortens the path from mould to finished bottle.
